How does Invisalign work?
The Invisalign system is the virtually invisible way to straighten your teeth. Invisalign treatment uses advanced 3D computer imaging technology to depict your complete treatment plan, from the initial position of your teeth to the final desired position.
Then a series of clear aligners are custom-made for your teeth — and your teeth only — to move them gradually. Each aligner is worn for about two weeks before being replaced by the next in the series until the final position of your teeth is achieved.
Your Invisalign treatment time will be determined by Dr. Whitesides based on your specific needs.

At your free initial consultation in North Port, Port Charlotte or Punta Gorda, Dr. Whitesides and our team will show you around our orthodontic office, where we will discuss your orthodontic needs and evaluate whether Invisalign treatment is right for you.
Your treatment plan
We will use the iTero® digital impression scanner to create fast, precise 3D images of your teeth. Then we will map out a precise treatment plan, including the exact movements of your teeth and how long your treatment will be. You’ll even get to preview your new smile digitally!
Your Invisalign aligners
Your custom-made aligners will be made of proprietary SmartTrack® material. They’re virtually invisible so most people won’t notice them. You’ll need to wear your Invisalign aligners 20 to 22 hours a day for the best results, taking them out only to eat, brush and floss.
Your progress
Invisalign appointments work with your schedule. Most visits are in and out, with a quick teeth straightening progress check once every six weeks. As you wear each set of aligners, which you’ll switch out every week or so, your teeth will gently and gradually shift into place.

Invisalign vs. braces

You can also remove the aligners to brush and floss as you normally would for fresh breath and good oral hygiene.
Unlike traditional metal braces, Invisalign treatment does not use metal brackets or wires that could irritate your mouth. In addition, you’ll spend less time in the orthodontist’s chair and scheduling appointments, and more time out doing the things you love.
